Today, many websites like Wikipedia and Reddit, as well as smaller ones like Halolz.com, a personal favorite of mine, have shut down and blacked out for 24 hours to protest the anti-piracy legislation moving through Congress right now. The bills SOPA, PIPA, and PROTECT IP all threaten the freedom of the internet by granting power to mega corporations and the entertainment industry to squelch new businesses and competitors without actually stopping online piracy, effectively ending the great equalizer and freedom of the internet.
